About me

Hi and welcome to My Frost Bites.

I’m a Japanese living in Finland. I moved here almost 11 years ago as a student, and life here has been a mix of challenges, learning, and surprises… especially when it comes to food.
This blog started as a space to record the small things I often forget: snacks I’ve tried, places I’ve visited, meals I’ve cooked, and random everyday notes.

I write mostly in English, sometimes in Japanese when sharing recipes or food stories that feel close to home.

A little more about what this blog is:

Q: Why did you start this blog?
Because I kept forgetting everything (mom brain? :D) Like which restaurant had a kids menu, which museum was worth going to again, or what ratio of water worked when I made noodles. I wanted a place to keep my own notes. Maybe they’ll help someone else too.

Q: Who is this blog for?
Mainly for myself. But I think other Japanese living abroad or anyone curious about Japanese food and daily life in Finland might find something useful or interesting here.

Q: And who are you?
I’m a full-time working mom who loves food. I struggled a lot with food after moving here (too much dairy, not enough Asian flavors). Over time, I’ve found ways to adapt, and this blog is where I document those little wins and weird discoveries.

Q: What kind of blog is this, really?
It’s a personal mix: part snack log, part food experiments, part weekend wander notes, and part everyday life abroad. Not perfect, not polished—but real.

Hope someone finds this interesting 🙂
